Location | Contact Hannover Attendees First to View New Bal Seal Energy Animation
Hannover, Germany -- April 9th, 2010 -- Visitors to the Hannover Fair, running April 19-23, 2010, will have an exclusive opportunity to view a new technical animation produced by Bal Seal Engineering, Inc.
The sequence, just over two minutes in length, was developed by Bal Seal to demonstrate the performance of its sealing, connecting and conducting solutions. An integral part of the company’s exhibit at Hannover’s Energy Pavilion, the animation will be displayed on a large plasma screen, giving attendees a unique perspective on the use of Bal Seal™ Spring-Energized seals and Canted-coil™ spring elements in alternative energy equipment.
“We wanted to give equipment design engineers and other visitors a no-nonsense illustration of how our products work,” Bal Seal Market Manager Roland Reichert explained. “Animation lets us accomplish this in a way no other kind of media can. For instance, by watching the part that depicts our seal’s function in a pitch drive gear assembly on a wind turbine, you can experience a view of the working seal that would otherwise be impossible to see during operation.”
In the slip ring assembly segment, the most technically comprehensive part of the animation, the viewer is transported through the nacelle of a wind turbine and into a photorealistic generator. As the segment progresses, the rotating slip ring assembly slows, and the unit cuts away to show a set of Canted-coil springs providing multi-point electrical contact and compensating for misalignment caused by thermal expansion.
Other segments of the animation illustrate the performance of Canted-coil springs in electrical connectors used along the interior of the wind turbine tower, and in solar panel connectors that perform both conducting and mechanical latching functions.
Although Bal Seal will officially unveil the new animation at its exhibit in the Energy Pavilion at Hannover (Halle 12, Stand B76) this isn’t the first time the company has used the medium to illustrate how its products work in technical applications.
